Broadridge processes $8 trillion in July through blockchain repo platform

Broadridge Financial Solutions has processed $8 trillion in repo transactions through its blockchain-based Distributed Ledger Repo platform during July, with average daily volume reaching $365 billion.

    Summary

    • Broadridge’s blockchain repo platform processed $8 trillion in transactions during July.
    • Average daily DLR volume reached $365 billion, up 28% year over year.
    • The platform allows institutions to settle repo trades and move tokenized collateral using distributed ledger technology.
    • Broadridge also provides blockchain infrastructure for shareholder voting, tokenized securities and digital asset post trade services.

According to Broadridge’s Aug. 10 announcement, average daily activity on the platform rose 28% from a year earlier as financial institutions continued using distributed ledger technology for repo settlement and collateral management.

The New York-listed fintech operates the Distributed Ledger Repo platform, or DLR, as infrastructure that lets financial firms settle repurchase agreements through distributed ledger technology without replacing their existing trading and post-trade systems.

Repo transactions are commonly used by financial institutions to obtain short-term funding by selling securities with an agreement to repurchase them later. Within DLR, collateral used in those transactions can be tokenized and moved between counterparties while financing activity is processed through the ledger.

Broadridge said the platform supports real-time financing and collateral movement, allowing firms to manage liquidity and capital while retaining established market workflows. Its DLR product page also lists automated repo processing, collateral optimization and fewer reconciliation requirements among the functions offered through the system.

Broadridge DLR has sustained more than $350 billion in daily volume

July was the latest month in which DLR processed hundreds of billions of dollars of repo transactions each day, following comparable volumes recorded earlier in 2026.

In January, the platform handled an average of $365 billion per day and $7.3 trillion for the month, representing a 508% year-over-year increase in average daily volume. Broadridge subsequently reported $354 billion in average daily volume and nearly $8 trillion in transactions during March.

By April, average daily volume had reached $368 billion, while monthly activity again approached $8 trillion. May produced another $7.2 trillion in transactions at an average of $362 billion per day.

DLR then processed $7.5 trillion during June, with average daily activity of $357 billion, before rising to $8 trillion in July. Broadridge said in July that DLR market data had also become available to Bloomberg Terminal subscribers.

Horacio Barakat, global head of digital innovation at Broadridge, said tokenization is becoming part of the way institutions manage liquidity and collateral.

“DLR continues to demonstrate that distributed ledger infrastructure can support the scale, reliability and interoperability required for core financing activity,” Barakat said.

The company has also been developing intraday uses for the platform. In March, Broadridge cited research conducted with Finadium that found using intraday DLR for 15% of activity could reduce intraday liquidity buffer requirements by between 8% and 17%.

Its technology is designed to connect blockchain-based transactions with existing financial infrastructure rather than requiring institutions to maintain a separate system for digital assets. Broadridge said the same structure can support the movement of tokenized securities while keeping trading and post-trade processes connected.

Broadridge is extending blockchain tools beyond repo settlement

The company has also expanded its distributed ledger infrastructure into tokenized securities, shareholder voting and digital asset post-trade services.

In June, crypto.news reported that Ondo Finance had partnered with Broadridge to provide governance tools to holders of more than 250 tokenized stocks and exchange-traded funds.

Under the arrangement, token holders can submit voting preferences linked to the underlying securities, while Broadridge provides access to documents including regulatory filings, prospectuses and investor communications.

Voting recommendations are weighted based on the amount of tokenized securities held by each investor. With consent from Ondo Global Markets, Broadridge can aggregate those preferences with votes submitted through traditional financial market channels.

Ondo described its tokenized securities as an operational layer built over existing broker-dealer custody arrangements rather than a replacement for the investor protections attached to the underlying securities.

Broadridge’s governance infrastructure had already been used in other corporate voting arrangements. Galaxy Digital used the company’s onchain governance platform for its annual meeting and shareholder vote in May, while Kraken parent Payward also announced plans to use Broadridge technology to give holders of tokenized shares access to corporate governance.

The fintech has separately developed digital asset infrastructure covering post-trade processing, wallets and custody, alongside systems used for onchain proxy voting.

Broadridge said in May that it was extending the infrastructure developed for DLR to tokenized securities across several asset classes, including technology that can support issuance, trading, settlement and servicing through infrastructure shared with traditional assets.

Financial institutions are putting more securities infrastructure onchain

Broadridge’s DLR volumes come as financial market operators continue deploying blockchain systems for settlement, collateral and securities processing.

As crypto.news previously covered, the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation began limited production activity for its tokenization service in July with more than 50 financial companies involved in the initiative.

The program includes institutions such as BlackRock, JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs and covers assets including Russell 1000 equities, major index ETFs and U.S. Treasuries. DTCC has targeted a larger rollout for October after starting limited production transactions in July.

Several European institutions have also been building blockchain-based securities settlement infrastructure. In May, Boerse Stuttgart added Societe Generale, its digital asset unit SG-FORGE and online broker flatexDEGIRO to its Seturion settlement network.

Seturion is designed to settle tokenized securities across public and private blockchains and support settlement using both onchain money and central bank money. SG-FORGE said it would provide its euro and dollar CoinVertible stablecoins for settlement, while Societe Generale planned to issue tokenized structured securities through the platform.

Institutional repo has also been tested through other distributed ledger networks. Earlier in 2026, DTCC, Euroclear, Tradeweb, Citadel Securities and Societe Generale completed a cross-border intraday repo transaction involving tokenized UK government bonds on Canton Network.

Broadridge itself is among the financial and technology companies involved with Canton, a privacy-focused blockchain designed for institutional capital markets. Bitwise said in May that institutions including Goldman Sachs, BNP Paribas, Deutsche Börse and Broadridge had participated in the network’s development or ecosystem.
