1 billion XRP unlocked as price holds near $1.25

Ripple has released 1 billion XRP from escrow on November 1 through two transactions worth roughly $624 million each, drawing attention on social media despite following the company’s established monthly schedule.

    Summary

    • Ripple released 1 billion XRP on November 1 through two scheduled transactions of 500 million XRP each.
    • Blockchain trackers identified both transfers as routine monthly escrow releases, despite social media claims of unusual activity.
    • Ripple re-locked 700 million XRP in October, following its established practice of returning unused tokens to escrow.
    • No November re-lock transactions had been confirmed in the initial reports, leaving the month’s net release unsettled.
    • XRP traded near $1.25, up 0.08% over 24 hours, despite the attention surrounding the transactions.

According to blockchain trackers KKapon and XRP Live, each transaction released 500 million XRP into Ripple-controlled wallets. The transfers were completed at approximately 00:00:02 UTC, with the tokens moving out of existing escrow contracts.

Meanwhile, the November transactions involved two Ripple escrow wallets, commonly identified by trackers as Ripple 10 and Ripple 11.

Each received 500 million XRP, bringing the total released to 1 billion tokens. At the prices cited by the trackers, the combined value was approximately $1.25 billion.

In a separate alert, KKapon described the second release as part of Ripple’s scheduled monthly escrow arrangement.

The XRP Ledger records an escrow release through an EscrowFinish transaction, which allows previously locked tokens to reach their designated recipients once the programmed conditions have been met.

Ripple established the system in December 2017, initially placing 55 billion XRP into contracts designed to make a portion of its holdings available each month.

The company explained that unused tokens would return to new escrow contracts, extending the release schedule beyond the original 55-month arrangement.

As crypto.news previously explained in its escrow guide, monthly releases can involve several transactions because Ripple’s locked holdings are distributed across multiple contracts.

September’s release, for example, involved separate transactions of 500 million, 400 million and 100 million XRP.

November’s two equal transfers therefore do not establish any unexpected change in Ripple’s escrow policy.

How much XRP will Ripple return to escrow?

Although the monthly release totaled 1 billion XRP, the amount Ripple eventually keeps outside escrow remains a separate question.

Historically, the company has returned much of its unlocked XRP to new time-locked contracts instead of leaving the entire amount available for use.

In October, Ripple released 1 billion tokens before re-locking 700 million XRP, leaving a net reduction of 300 million XRP in escrowed supply.

The same 700 million re-lock pattern appeared in September, according to XRP Ledger transaction analysis.

Earlier coverage of September’s release explained that an escrow unlock does not automatically establish how much XRP reaches exchanges or investors.

A November 1 ledger report found that no tokens from the latest release had been placed into new escrow contracts as of 10:50 UTC.

At that point, Ripple-controlled escrow holdings stood near 30.4 billion XRP.

If Ripple follows October’s pattern and returns 700 million tokens, the November net reduction in locked supply would be 300 million XRP.

However, that figure remains conditional until the corresponding EscrowCreate transactions appear on the ledger.

Even XRP retained outside escrow may remain in company-controlled wallets. A release alone does not establish that Ripple sold or distributed those tokens.

XRP price holds near $1.25 after escrow unlock

Despite the large dollar value attached to Sunday’s transactions, XRP recorded limited price movement.

According to crypto.news XRP price data, the cryptocurrency traded at approximately $1.25 on November 1, gaining 0.08% over 24 hours.

Its daily trading range remained between $1.25 and $1.26, with reported volume of roughly $717 million.

The token had lost 2.89% over seven days and 18.52% over the previous month.

Earlier analysis of November’s outlook identified weakening prices during October, when XRP retreated from around $1.49 at the beginning of the month.

Crypto analyst Xaif Crypto reported a positive turn in cumulative volume delta, suggesting buyers had begun responding after earlier selling.

However, the analyst described the development as a “short-term bullish shift, but not confirmed,” noting that sustained buying would be necessary to establish a reversal.

Meanwhile, the November escrow transactions have not demonstrated any immediate exchange selling linked to the released tokens.

The next confirmed supply figures will depend on Ripple’s subsequent wallet transfers and any new escrow contracts recorded on the XRP Ledger.
