Upbit lists BFC in KRW and USDT markets

Upbit opened Bifrost trading against the South Korean won and USDT on Sept. 10, giving BFC two additional markets on South Korea’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume.

    Summary

    • Upbit opened BFC trading against South Korean won and USDT markets on September 10, 2026.
    • Deposits and withdrawals support only Bifrost Network, leaving transfers through unsupported blockchains ineligible for credit.
    • Upbit restricted purchases and deeply discounted sell orders for approximately five minutes after launch initially.
    • Only limit orders remained available during the first two hours of BFC trading on Upbit.
    • Bifrost says its BTCFi protocol lets users mint BtcUSD against Bitcoin collateral for DeFi activity.

Upbit scheduled BFC/KRW and BFC/USDT trading to begin at 13:45 Korea Standard Time, or 04:45 UTC, on Sept. 10. The exchange published the listing notice shortly before the planned opening.

The announcement specified Bifrost Network as the only supported blockchain for BFC deposits and withdrawals. Users must not send alternative versions of the token through other networks, even if another exchange or wallet supports them. Upbit warned that deposits sent through an unsupported network would not be credited automatically. Recovering those assets could require a lengthy return process and may depend on whether the transaction can be identified and technically recovered.

The exchange also said trading could be postponed if deposits and withdrawals failed to establish enough liquidity before the scheduled opening. Upbit did not announce a delay for BFC in the information available at publication. The new markets expand BFC beyond Upbit’s existing Bitcoin-denominated market. Before the listing, the exchange displayed a previous BTC-market closing value of 0.00000015 BTC. Upbit estimated that amount at 15.96 won and 0.1788 USDT.

Those figures were reference prices used to calculate opening restrictions. They should not be treated as confirmed post-listing market performance. No verified data established a sustained BFC price reaction after the KRW and USDT markets opened.

BFC trading begins with temporary order limits

Upbit applied its standard restrictions for newly listed assets. Buy orders were unavailable for approximately five minutes after trading began. This measure was intended to reduce disorderly trading during the opening period.

Sell orders priced more than 10% below the previous closing price were also restricted for approximately five minutes. Upbit calculated that boundary using the BFC price available in its BTC market. Only limit orders were accepted during the first two hours. Market orders and other conditional order types became unavailable during that period, preventing users from immediately buying or selling at whatever price was available.

The restrictions did not set a permanent trading range for BFC. Prices could move outside the initial reference level once the temporary limits expired and normal order types became available.

Upbit has used similar controls during other market launches. As crypto.news reported, our altcoins received eight new Upbit trading pairs in August, with purchases briefly restricted and limit orders required during the opening phase.

The exchange also opened multiple markets for other newly listed assets. In related coverage, Upbit added CAP trading against KRW, BTC and USDT, demonstrating its practice of applying network requirements and temporary order controls to new listings.

    Bifrost provides EVM-compatible multichain infrastructure

Bifrost describes itself as a multichain middleware platform that lets developers combine functionality from different blockchain networks. Its website says the infrastructure is designed to provide multichain capabilities for decentralized applications.

The Bifrost Network is built using the Substrate framework and remains compatible with the Ethereum API, according to its official documentation. That compatibility allows developers to work with Ethereum-oriented libraries and development environments.

BFC serves as a utility asset within the ecosystem. The token can be used to pay fees associated with multichain decentralized-finance services on BiFi, or Bifrost Finance.

The network also operates a Bitcoin-focused decentralized-finance service known as BTCFi. Bifrost says the protocol allows users to supply Bitcoin as collateral and mint BtcUSD, a dollar-denominated stablecoin.

Users can employ BtcUSD in supported lending and yield-generating applications. Bifrost also describes the stablecoin as cross-chain infrastructure intended to expand Bitcoin-backed liquidity across multiple DeFi environments.

These descriptions come from the project and do not guarantee that users will earn returns. Lending, collateral and cross-chain applications carry smart-contract, liquidation, bridge and stablecoin risks.

    Upbit requires verified deposit sources

Upbit said transfers must comply with South Korea’s Travel Rule requirements. Deposits from exchanges that are not included on its approved virtual-asset service provider list may not be credited.

Personal wallets must also complete Upbit’s ownership-verification process. Even a transfer from a connected wallet may require additional review or a return procedure depending on the network and transaction details.

The exchange can request evidence explaining the source of funds when a user makes a large deposit from an unclear origin. These checks form part of Upbit’s anti-money laundering and customer-verification procedures.

Upbit’s operator, Dunamu, has recently expanded its access to government information for customer checks. As crypto.news reported, Dunamu received approval to use South Korea’s administrative data system, providing another method for verifying user information.

Upbit separately announced support for Renzo’s REZ token in its USDT market on Sept. 10. That listing is independent of the BFC launch. The exchange delayed REZ trading from 15:00 KST to 18:00 KST while retaining Ethereum as its supported deposit network.

The separate REZ schedule does not change BFC’s supported markets or network. Users should consult the relevant notice for each asset instead of treating the two announcements as one listing.

What happens after the Upbit BFC listing

With the opening restrictions expired, BFC can trade through the normal order types supported in Upbit’s KRW and USDT markets. The exchange has not announced another listing-related deadline.

Users depositing BFC must continue using Bifrost Network. Upbit has not indicated that Ethereum or another blockchain version of the token will receive support.

Future trading activity will determine whether the new pairs maintain stable liquidity. The listing itself does not guarantee sustained volume, higher prices or wider adoption of Bifrost’s BTCFi products.

However, investors will also need to monitor official announcements for changes to deposits, withdrawals or trading support. Upbit can suspend services when it identifies network instability, security concerns or compliance issues.
